SEAI solar grants
Solar grants in Ireland.
Different schemes apply to homes and businesses. Check the amount, the conditions and when to apply before you commit.
For your home
Solar Electricity Grant
Up to €1,800
Maximum at 4 kWp or above. Subject to eligibility.
The home must have been built and occupied before 1 January 2021, have an MPRN and not have received a previous SEAI solar PV grant at that MPRN. Homeowners and eligible landlords can apply.

- €700 per kWp
- Next 2 kWp
- €200 per kWp
Amounts are proportional to the panel capacity. For example, 2.5 kWp qualifies for €1,500 before other eligibility checks. kWp describes the panels’ rated output, not daily electricity production.
What happens after installation?
A registered assessor must complete and publish a new BER. Your solar company submits the completion evidence, including the signed Declaration of Works, electrical certificates, grid paperwork, invoice and photographs.
The work must be complete and the company paid, or a financing agreement in place, before the grant is claimed. Keep your manuals and warranties as part of your own handover file.
For businesses and organisations
Non Domestic Microgen Grant
Up to €162,600
Maximum at 1,000 kWp. Smaller systems receive less.
For eligible businesses, farms, public bodies, schools and community or nonprofit organisations. The premises must have been built and occupied by 31 December 2020. The system must serve electricity demand on site, not export alone.
The bands are cumulative. These are SEAI’s published examples, not installation prices or grant offers.

How the grant bands work

There is no additional support above 1,000 kWp. Funding cannot exceed eligible expenditure. Check the current guide for all conditions.
Eligibility and paperwork to check
Support is available once per MPRN. Use a company and installer registered for the scheme. Unlike the home grant, NDMG does not require a BER.
Confirm the applicable ESB Networks connection route and completion documents with your installer. SEAI also requires tax clearance where public grants or similar payments exceed €10,000 in a calendar year.
The order matters
From quote to payment.
- Agree the work. Choose a company registered for your scheme and agree a written contract.
- Apply, then wait. Receive the Letter of Offer before buying equipment or starting work. Check its company, system and amount.
- Confirm the grid connection. Your installer handles the relevant ESB Networks process before installation.
- Complete and claim. Finish the work and submit the required documents within the eight month offer period.
Agree how you will cover the cost while awaiting the grant. Both schemes pay after completion and documentation, not simply when you accept a quote. SEAI advises allowing 4 to 6 weeks after all documents arrive, with more time if an inspection is needed.
